How is the Chemical Nickel Plating Method Performed?

Plating with certain metal ions is performed to prevent the corrosion of some objects and metals and to provide an aesthetic and attractive appearance.

For example, products manufactured using nickel plating are materials found in many areas of our lives with significant aesthetic value.

The plating industry is an indispensable part of household appliances and kitchenware in particular. Plating is necessary to make such materials look impressive.

What are the Requirements for Nickel Plating?

The amounts of substances required for chemical nickel plating are as follows;

  • Nickel Sulfate 30 g
  • Sodium Hypophosphite 30 g
  • Sodium Acetate 20 g
  • Trisodium Citrate 20 g
  • Additive in the range of 1-5 g
  • The remaining amount is topped up with distilled water to complete the solution to 1 L.

During the nickel plating process, the solution temperature can be in the range of 30-50 °C. Corrosion resistance will increase as the plating thickness decreases.

Sodium hypophosphite is used as a reducing agent. The plating temperature should be in the range of 85-95 °C.

If the solution is acidic and plating is performed at high temperatures, degradation may occur in some materials.
